Francesca Caccini - La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina
An Australian premiere of Francesca Caccini's only surviving opera.
In varietate Concordia - unity through diversity - explores the tonal capabilities of the recorder, an instrument often overlooked, yet has stood the test of time. Alana Performs a showcase of every aspect of the instrument, including a display of varying sizes and styles from the tiny sopranino to the large, square subcontra bass. Through compositions using fixed media, and live sampling and processing, Alana will perform Australian premieres together with a newly developed improvised performance with sound technologist Ben Carey.
Two grand works stand transformed side by side – J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. IV for two recorders, harpsichord, strings and continuo is heard in an arrangement for 2 recorders and 2 harpsichords. Doubly transformed, Elena Kats-Chernin’s Reinventions, based on six of Bach’s 2-part inventions, is arranged by the composer for recorder and harpsichord, and premiered at this concert where Amelie sits next to Dracula! With Alana Blackburn and Joanne Arnott (recorders), Monika Kornel and Diana Weston (harpsichords).

Saturday 1st October Tactility - Chronology Arts
Sydney Fringe Festival
An experimental event/exhibition - Tactility
- is featuring in the Sydney Fringe Festival. Chronology Arts is
presenting an exhibition of works from Sept 27 that are the result of a
collaboration between composers Alex Pozniak, Amanda Cole, Julian Day,
Russell Phillips and Ben Carey and visual artists Therese Harrison,
Emily Sandrussi, Scott Morrison and Jo Kulchar. The music works will be
performed in situ on October 1 from 7pm onwards

Bach has had a far reaching influence on many composers, past and
present. This program explores the connections between Bach and
contemporary composition and includes Jonathan Dove’s Köthener Messe
(2002), written especially for recorders, harpsichord and baroque
string instruments and Bach’s exuberant setting of the Magnificat.
Jogging
perambulators, portly waders and sparkles on the sea – Manly in the
morning. Thoroughbass and the Manly Arts Festival present a concert
celebrating the light, colour and life of Manly. In joyous music by
Bach and Vivaldi played on two sparkly harpsichords with two lively
recorders.

Monthly Guest Tutor Sydney Recorder Society
Each month
the Sydney Recorder Society holds a lovely night of recorder playing
and invite a different guest tutor to each session. Level and ability
is varied and everyone finishes learning something more about playing
the recorder. You can become a member right there on the spot, or come
along to test the water, it's always a great night with lots of laughs.
Language has always been
the paramount artform for the English. Word-play, humour and jest,
stories and imagery are as important in this music as the music itself,
and to be enjoyed for its own sake. English for English speakers has
the added advantage of being understandable! It needs no translation.
We present a broad spectrum from Dowland and Purcell to Rubbra and
Vaughan Williams.

Arcadian world of gods and monsters with Handel's Italian cantatas,
written circa 1710. Shriek with the heroine as she is abducted by the
serpent, swoon with the adventurer as he discovers - and loses - his
lover. Let the enchantress of music beguile and befuddle; indulge with
the shepherd and Dionysus in some of Handel's most dramatic works.
